NIRDA’s R&D researchers acquire training in product development, sensory evaluation

Researchers from the National Industrial Research and Development Agency (NIRDA)’s Applied Research have acquired a weeklong advanced training on product development and sensory evaluation expected to help them improve their daily lab-based work.

The trained staff are those involved in NIRDA Life Sciences Laboratory (NLSL) based in Huye District where the NIRDA Huye Research Centre is based.

The training provided in September comes at the right time when the Lab has started its operations in Product development and testing in food and pharmaceuticals as well as in sensory evaluation among others.

It also comes when NIRDA has embarked on supporting private sector, university students and industries (SMEs) among others.

For instance, currently NIRDA is supporting young innovators who have been selected in the ongoing innovate for Cow biohackathon, a competition aims at helping the youth to bring about more innovation around cow products and cow by products.

The trainees underwent both theoretical and practical training where in the end, products were developed inside the lab and tested for quality assurance.

The National Industrial Research and Development Agency (NIRDA), is a government institution that has been mandated with a mission to enable a generation of industrial innovators to become competitive through technology monitoring, acquisition, development and transfer & applied research.
